  I totally agree with the review by "Chris" regarding their billing practices. They are horrible to deal with in regards to billing. Their statements are difficult to interpret and their receptionists cannot explain their own billing terminology, etc. You are treated like a deadbeat if there is a balance on your account, even though it was due to their own clerical errors. This has happened to me several times - either charging the wrong co-pay or mischarging covered wellness visits as sick visits and then making me feel like it was my problem. They used to have an illegal practice of passing along the credit card processing surcharge onto the client by charging 3% if you wanted to pay by credit card, which they have since thankfully discontinued. I was also outraged by being overcharged for application of silver nitrate to my infant's umbilicus ($77 for a .22 cent silver nitrate stick - I know the cost because I work in the veterinary industry and use them all the time) That being said - I have been very pleased with all the doctors I have seen, especially Dr. Apsotol and Dr. Cox. Dr. Apostol has been great with both my boys - listening to our concerns and doing appropriate testing or referrals as warrented - and is really the only reason I put up with all the billing crap and poor office service.

  Excellent doctors. But... It does not appear that the nurses are at the par with the doctors...especially for interacting with infants and toddlers. On several occassions we experienced a supermarket approach, i.e., you are here for a product, I am doing my job, and I don't really need to get to know the toddler. At least one nurse had to be reminded twice on two different occassions that our infant/ toddler was very sensitive and it would pacify the environment if the nurse calmed our infant down first by talking soothingly, instead of 'the nurse just doing her job' -- like a robot, without a care in the world for the infant's psychology. I will give credit to the attending physician for assigning a separate nurse, but that does not really solve the problem. Now, for tonight I am quite distressed about the answering service Coastal Kids employs to take after hours message. Even when I requested to speak with the attending physician the answering service repeatedly told me that I had to go through the triage nurse first before I would even have a chance to speak with a doctor. Moreover, a 30-90min window as given for a call back from the nurse. The attending after hours person appeared to have no sensitivity in the conversation about my toddler's condition and almost with an air of taking an order for a pizza's topping... Very insensitive indeed. Anyway, it is not always what a 'business' advertises itself to be, but rather, what the customers collectively perceive it as such. I hope my experience, my wife and toddler's is one off, that is three in a row but I am hoping they are aberrations. As I really commend the physicians who work for Dr Abelowitz at Coastal Kid
